I am proud to say that my 80s crush has remained constant through the last twenty-something years.
Yes, my 80s crush was and still is BRET MICHAELS, lead singer of Poison. Still HOT after all these years!
Who knew that Bret would end up to be such a long lasting figure in Pop Culture? Besides his work with Poison in the 80s, he has also had a very successful solo career.
He has also been in the spotlight with his VH1 show "Rock of Ages" and his new reality show. He got notariety from those who were maybe not as familiar with him by winning "Celebrity Apprentice" last year. He has done extensive work to raise awareness for diabetes research as well. Before the Apprentice finale, I was so upset to hear about his near death experience after having a brain aneurysm. What a relief when he pulled through!
When I was in high school, I was consumed with hair bands: Bon Jovi, Cinderella, Def Leppard, Europe, Guns and Roses, Bullet Boys, Motley Crew, Extreme, Whitesnake, Skid Row, White Lion, Warrant, Slaughter, and the list goes on and on. I was the girl in the black tee shirt and denim jacket with buttons plastered all over the front.
I was lucky enough to see most of these bands in concert since I lived near Orlando and the original Orlando Arena opened in the 80s (Now it has been rebuilt and renamed Amway Arena)Yes, my 80s crush was and still is BRET MICHAELS, lead singer of Poison. Still HOT after all these years!

However, when Poison came in concert it was exam week. With my parents both being former educators, there was no way they were going to let me go.
This was one of those events that I will NEVER forget! Did they realize this was "THE CONCERT" for me?!?!?! I was devastated! The worst part was going to school the next day and hearing all my friends tell me how great it was. UGH!
Last year when I read that they were going to be at the Hard Rock, I HAD to go! Not only was it the original line up and in a relatively small venue, but it was also to raise money for the Downs Syndrome Foundation. It was a win win situation for me and I couldn't resist.
All of a sudden I was 17 again. I went with my best friend from high school, we got there hours early and ended up in front! (See pic below)
Good for you that you were finally able to see them. I'm a Poison fan...musically...can't say I ever crushed on any of them. It's great tio see you've stuck with him through all these years! :)
ReplyDeleteFeeling any better today?
Oh, Bret Michaels is a great choice! I loved Poison, especially Every Rose Has Its Thorn. I thought he was so hot in that video!

Stop it! That is so cool you got a second chance to see the band and got all the way UP FRONT! I was never into Poison, but I did watch a bit of that Apprentice, and he's just such a cool, smart person. Excellent choice and congrats on being such a good man-picker back then. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for being a fun part of this fest.
Thanks for following Jay!
ReplyDeleteNicki, thanks for hosting this hop. It has been so much fun reminiscing of the good ole days :)
Ooo. Nice choice. I admit to liking that dating show he did. lol I have no idea why. Maybe it was him. Yeah, that it explains it.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for hosting! This has been so much fun :) That show was hard to watch. It should've been me! LOL
DeleteGreat choice! He has a certain charisma that has followed him through the years.
ReplyDeleteHe has made some very smart choices in his career and I am so glad that he is "giving back". That's always nice to see
DeleteOne of my best friends in HS was a huge Nikki Sixx fan (did I spell that right?) I have a very strong image of who you were in the '80s based on your choices thanks to her! (She later became a deejay.)
ReplyDeleteI saw Nikki with Motley Crue back then too! Yes, we were a select group back then. Ha ha :)
DeleteSuze, thanks so much for hosting! Today has brought back lots of good memories
DeleteI loved hair bands, too. As I'm going around to everyone's blogs, each persons crush I go "oh yeah, him/them too!"
ReplyDeleteI was lucky to see Poison at a benefit for homeless people in NYC. I was right up front, too, and it was a fabulous show. I'm glad you got to get in there!
They are doing lots of benefits lately. It's good to see them giving a voice to so many who need it. Proud of my man :) LOL!
DeleteAh, the big hair. It so defined the 80s!
ReplyDeleteI had a horrific perm back then but never was a "teaser". I think Poison's hair was bigger than mine. LOL
DeleteI loved all the hair bands too! I still see them in concert! I just saw Motley Crue and Poison (again) this past summer. They can sure put on a show! And yes, I even watched Rock of Love. The girls were a bit of a train wreck that you had to watch.
ReplyDeleteDo I get to comment now?? Let's try again. Not going to repeat the whole email, just needed to see if blogger was still hating me...which it appears not to be at this very moment...so hi! Great post.

ReplyDeleteTina, it's good to see Blogger giving you love again
OMG! I still love Brett M too. He was such a hoot on Celeb Apprentice. I'm in the bloghop, stopping here. Glad I did.
ReplyDeleteI, too, am glad you finally got to see them live. Rock on!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Catherine! Yes, Bret has aged well
ReplyDeleteSquid, it was still a very impressive show. I would go again if I have another opportunity
Great choice, rocker girl. ;) I'm partial to the helium voice of one of the Poison band members--can't remember his name. That's admirable you work with people with disabilities. Rock on, and good luck with your writing.
ReplyDeleteRocker girl! I like it.
ReplyDeleteSaw Poison a few years ago. The audience went nuts during their set.
I was a total metal head, too! Even had The Scorpion's Still Loving You for "our song" at my wedding. I remember Poison well.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer. I think you are talking about CC, the lead guitarist?
ReplyDeleteHi Alex, their show brought back the rocker girl in me :)
Nancy, I liked the Scorpions too. That's cool that you used them for your song :)
Thanks for stopping by :)
Who knew Bret and Poison would go on as long as they have?
ReplyDeleteI agree, but I'm so glad they have! :)
ReplyDeleteI still AM consumed with hair bands. Love them! ;)
ReplyDeleteWe listened to very different kinds of music. After my younger pop phase, I listened to alternative. But these bands were all over MTV, so I know many of the songs.
ReplyDeleteMe too Trisha!
ReplyDeleteTheresa, I liked alternative in the early 90s but these groups were "it" in my high school years. Thanks for following!
