The Oscars

I am a little bleary eyed and tired today so I'm posting a little late.  I stayed up waaay past my bedtime to watch The Oscars.

In general, this is what I learned

1.  The special effects of Hugo must've been REALLY good

2.  Viola Davis was robbed (although I do like Meryl Streep too)

3.  I guess I need to see The Artist

It was a good show overall.  Billy Crystal was classic as usual, everyone looked good, and it seems like the winners were all deserving and gracious.

I hadn't seen about half of the movies nominated but I did see The Help, War Horse, Ides of March and Moneyball.

On my "To See" list now is The Artist, The Descendents, and Hugo.

Did your favorites win last night?  What were your favorite movies of the year?

  1. In my humble opinion...winning an Oscar does not determine whether or not I see a film. I've seen my share of Oscar winners that were absolutely terrible (Chariots of Fire to mention just one). The Artist didn't interest me before, and it still doesn't. :)

    1. A truly high-quality film stands the test of time. Now, 20 years later, to say "Dancing with Wolves" is better than "GoodFellas" is pure sacrilege. There have been some very good films that have won but plenty more that didn't, including many that were completely ignored.

  2. I haven't seen any of these yet - but I'm keen to see The Artist to check out what all the fuss is about!

  3. Hi, Heather! We enjoyed the Oscars a lot, too. You've got us beat - we've only seen ONE nominated film: "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy." I've tagged you in a post: http://armchairsquid.blogspot.com/2012/02/ive-been-tagged.html.

  4. I didn't see many of the movies nominated & only watched a bit of the Oscars this year. I do want to see Hugo and the Help. I still have to read the Help first!

  5. You must absolutely see "The Artist"! You will understand why it couldn't not have won the three most important Oscars!
So yes, my favorite movie definitely won last night!

  6. Viola Davis should have one. I like Meryl Streep too, and if Viola didn't win, I was glad she did. I heard the Descendants was sad, but I will shed some tears if I get to stare at george Clooney for a few hours. I haven't seen The Artist either and I don't know if I will be able too. Mainly because I don't think I will be able to watch a silent movie for 2 hours without yelling "OMG Say Something!" I saw Ides Of March. I thought it was decent, but not stellar. Watching Moneyball this weekend. EVERYONE I know said it was great...especially if you know anything about baseball...but it is still good even if you don't:)
