Dog Days of Disney

It's Fall in the Magic Kingdom.

I just finished a week and a half long vacation including 2 days at Disney.  The first day at Magic Kingdom, AKA the happiest place on Earth.

It has been a tradition for my best friend from high school and I to go to Disney at any available opportunity.  We have been going since we were old enough to drive and have averaged at least annual trips.  We missed a few years when I was living out of state and she was out of the country in the Navy.  This year we have made up for lost time.

I noticed this time around that even though we have a great time, there are certain changes that have crept into our routine...

1.  We arrive a little later than we used to.  We used to wait for the gates to open and run to the line.  Not so much anymore.

2.  It used to be a chore to stop and eat.  Now it's a welcome break.

3.  The Teacups seem to spin a little faster than they used to!  Even though we turn the turnstile in the middle to make them go faster, it has become exhausting!

4.  The back and feet aren't as cooperative as they used to be, forcing me into very odd positions for some relief

5.  There is NO spring in my step the next day!

However, it is still as fun as ever 20+ years later, and I'm already looking forward to the next time.

Just be home by midnight...

I wish I was there today.  Instead I have returned back to work.  Tomorrow will be my 11th anniversary at my job.  Stay tuned for Day 2 to postpone reality just a little longer.

  1. I call those changes "I'm getting too old for this!"
Glad you had a good time.
Can't do the teacups though. My head would explode.

  2. I have some wonderful memories of taking my children to Disney World. I do though recall how exhausted I was when the day was over. Last time I was there was about five years ago with my grandchildren. That time we stayed in the park and that was so much more relaxing.

  3. My grandparents used to take us to Disney every year. I have such great memories of it. Glad you can still enjoy it.

  4. Can't do the rides at the fair anymore. Even going on the merry go round with the grands makes me dizzy and queasy.

  5. Disney!!! Oh, seeing that pumpkin Mickey makes me want to go back soooo badly. It's awesome you & your friend are keeping up the tradition. Looking forward to Day 2. Hey, my parents are moving waaaay slower than you, yet the World is still their favorite place on Earth - and that's what's so cool about it - it's a great experience no matter what pace you take it at.

  9. That's a cool best friend trip. :) I know what you mean about the teacups. Now I look at rides I used to love and think, "Nope."

  10. Oh I so love Disney, it is about 7 years since I was last there. I would go tomorrow if I could! It was Easter and we had so much fun with the kids finding hidden 'eggs' all round the park. Glad you had a great vacation.

  11. Hi Heather,
This is great and the joy never leaves you. What a time and because I'm never going to grow up, I typing on my human's computer, wearing his 'Mickey Mouse' ears! :)
Pawsitive wishes and doggy kisses, Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet star! xx

  13. No spinning rides for me, but I would love to go back to Disney! Glad you had fun with your friend, and it's great that you've made it an annual event! Congrats on your 11th anniversary, and I hope that you're still not spinning at work! Julie

  14. Looks like we went around the same time.
Went to MK one day and it was normal. We went back two days later and the whole place turned fall!
    It was my first trip.
    Well worth it.
    Heather
